This house circles around the client’s two primary interests; a large collection of classic automobiles on the one hand and the beachfront activities of boating, swimming and outdoor entertaining, on the other. Following the curve of the beach and taking advantage of the natural topography, the house is sited as an S-shaped wall defining two courtyard areas: and entry auto court and a waterfront terrace with swimming pool.

Embraced by the concave curve of the house, the terrace is protected from prevailing winds, traps the morning sun and maintains privacy from the neighbors on this treeless promontory. The auto court provides a welcoming enclosure and displays the auto collection. The terrace curve allows a continuous glass curtain wall affording a sweeping view of the water while at the same time creating an inward focus and sense of self-protection. The curved walls of the house also serve as a fundamental structural function. The solid wall of the outer curve around each courtyard resists all lateral forces acting on the building by picking up loads from the glazed inner curve transferred through the shear diaphragm of the roof.
