Kansai-Kan National Science Library

This proposal for the design of the Kansai-Kan National Science Library conceives of the building as a simple machine continually registering, recording, ordering and juxtaposing the ebb and flow of complex information washing across this site. As an international center for the collection, registration and ordering of humanity's continually increasing and transforming knowledge of the natural universe, we conceived of the library as a collector apparatus deployed at an essentially arbitrary point within the dense cloud of undifferentiated knowledge and raw information flowing equally throughout both the natural universe and the intellectual space of human culture. The objective of this project has been specifically to make this space of flowing information evident as a wholly physical, inhabitable presence in human life, rather than as a so-called virtual reality, physically disconnected from the material world.
