| Having
lived all their lives in warm and sunny climates, the clients for
this hillside home had a strong requirement that their new home
feel bright, open and airy, but not at the expense of losing the
thick growth of natural vegetation which attracted them to the site
in the first place. The light and open feeling of the interior is
achieved by connecting the rooms end to end forming the house into
a long L shape. Each interior space reaches across the house from
wall to wall, admitting both east and west light into all major
spaces. To preserve the natural vegetation and topography, the site
was carefully excavated to allow the ground and trees to remain
undisturbed to within a few feet of the foundation. The resulting
house provides and integration of interior and exterior spaces,
anchored into the natural condition of the site. |
